MMag. Dr. Astrid Mattes

Post-Doctoral Researcher

Since 2017 Astrid Mattes works as a postdoctoral researcher at the interdisciplinary research platform "Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society". Her main fields of interest are immigrant integration politics, religious pluralism, Islam in Austria and the governing of diversity in liberal democracies. She studied Political Science and Comparative Religious Studies at the Universities of Vienna and Limerick (Ireland). After graduation in 2011, she worked for the research project "Mapping Religions in Vienna" at the Department for the Study of Religions at Vienna University. In 2012 she received a research scholarship from Vienna University for her research on civic engagement of Muslim youth groups. Astrid Mattes joined the research group INEX in 2012, when she took up her position as University Assistant at the Department of Political Science, University of Vienna, during which she was involved in INEX research projects on immigrant integration ("Monitoring", "Governing Integration") and political discourses on terrorism ("Liberal Tolerance"). For her Doctoral Thesis "Integrating Religion: The Roles of Religion in Austrian, German and Swiss immigrant Integration Studies" received the "Dissertation Award for Research on Migration" from the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Astrid Mattes gewinnt den ÖAW-Dissertationspreis für Migrationsforschung 2016!

Die österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften verlieh Astrid Mattes in Anerkennung ihres Dissertationsprojektes Integrating Religion: The Roles of Religion in Austrian, German and Swiss Immigrant Integration Policies den Preis für Migrationsforschung 2016.

Die Übergabe des Preises findet am 19. Jänner 2017 in der ÖAW statt.
