About the project
The main goal of the Erasmus + Project HELCI - Higher Education Learning community for Inclusion is to promote non-discrimination principles and European common values in Higher Education, boosting connections among universities of different countries and elaborating inclusive and innovative contents that counteract xenophobic and racist speeches as well as other forms of intolerance. It aims to develop four MOOCs - Massive Open Online Courses on the topics of anti-discrimination, equality, sexual orientation, and diversity/ethnicity. The target group of the MOOCs are students, lecturers, and administrative staff in contact with students, who become sensitised to issues such as anti-discrimination and inclusion. The Moocs will also be made available for the European Higher Education Community.
The contribution of the University of Vienna concerns the MOOC on Diversity and Ethnicity. Based on the diverse university community of the University of Vienna, we provide knowledge and expertise in the field of diversity, inclusion, and anti-discrimination. As a methodological approach, we choose on the one hand expert interviews with academics and stakeholders to locate best-practice examples and institutional approaches to diversity. On the other hand, we use online surveys and focus groups with students to get to know their needs and to develop content.
The HELCI project is accompanied by a national and a Transnational Learning Community (TLC). The TLC is a place of knowledge generation with the aim of making European universities an inclusive educational space. Knowledge within the TLC is generated through interaction and participation and is based on the experiences and knowledge of the group. Selected participants from each national learning community form a transnational group consisting of experts, interested, and involved staff and students from all three universities. This committee will support the success of the project in an advisory capacity.

Über das Projekt
Das Erasmus+ Projekt HELCI hat zum Ziel, vier MOOCs - Massive Open Online Courses zu den Themen Anti-Diskriminierung, Gleichstellung, sexuelle Orientierung und Diversität/ Ethnizität zu entwickeln. Diese sollen für Themen und Herausforderungen der Anti-Diskriminierung und der Inklusion sensibilisieren, Informationen zur Verfügung stellen und Inklusionsstrategien im alltäglichen Handeln anbieten.
Die MOOCs richten sich an die europäische Hochschulgemeinschaft. Zielgruppe der MOOCs sind Studierende aber auch Lehrende und administrative Mitarbeiter*innen im Kontakt mit Studierenden, die für Themen wie Anti-Diskriminierung und Inklusion sensibilisiert werden sollen.
Der Beitrag der Universität Wien betrifft das MOOC zu Diversität und Ethnizität. Ausgehend von der vielfältigen Hochschulgemeinschaft der Universität Wien stellen wir Wissen und Expertise im Bereich Diversität, Inklusion und Anti-Diskriminierung zur Verfügung. Als methodische Herangehensweise wählen wir einerseits Expert*inneninterviews mit Wissenschafter*innen und Stakeholdern, um best-practice Beispiele und institutionelle Zugänge zu Diversität zu verorten. Andererseits veranstalten wir Diskussionen mit Studierenden, um ihre Bedürfnisse kennen zu lernen und Inhalte zu entwickeln. Die Expertise und das Engagement der Universität Wien sind ein wichtiger Ausgangspunkt, um den MOOC so zu gestalten, dass er auch an anderen europäischen Universitäten/Hochschulen nutzbar ist.
Das Projekt HELCI wird inhaltlich von einer nationalen und einer transnationalen Learning Community (TLC) begleitet. Die TLC ist ein Ort der Wissensgenerierung mit dem Ziel, europäische Universitäten/Hochschulen zu inklusiven Bildungsräumen zu machen. Das Wissen innerhalb der TLC wird durch Interaktion und Partizipation generiert und basiert auf den Erfahrungen und dem Wissen der Gruppe. Ausgewählte Teilnehmer*innen der jeweiligen nationalen Learning Community bilden eine transnationale Gruppe, die sich aus Expert*innen, interessierten und involvierten Mitarbeiter*innen sowie Studierenden aller drei Universitäten zusammensetzt. Dieses Gremium soll den Erfolg des Projekts bei insgesamt sechs online Treffen beratend unterstützen.
